Biography

Frank Ermschel (Bochum, 1957) studied painting at the FH Aachen from 1983 to 1989. He then studied art history and philosophy at the University of Trier. Ermschel was largely influenced by the most important art movement of the 1970s, Conceptualism. This movement is seen as a reaction to Minimalism, which, with its revolutionary features, challenged the boundaries of art. In Conceptualism, the concept is more important than aesthetic or material-technical motives.
